Ladies and gentlemen, we got poop!

DAY 13

First there was too much poop, then there was none. I've been consumed by the poop saga of my bottle kittens for almost 10 days now, I'm literally living, breathing, and dreaming about poop. You'd think that's gross but when it's been days since your little kitten hasn't gone to the bathroom, poop becomes like those special presents on Christmas morning you've been eagerly waiting for. I've tried every trick in the book, olive oil, mineral oil, stimulating them differently, and as a last resort before going back to the vet yet again we tried kid's suppositories, liquid glycerin. And like magic, we had poop. Not a lot, but first in days. I laughed, I cried, and I danced. Ok, so maybe I didn't cry but I did dance from the excitement. And Sunnie literally looked "pooped out" afterwards.

Will this be the end of troubles for my trio? Only time will tell. And sorry, no videos of my poop dance.

Finally a good day

DAY 9

We've been having such terrible days, Monday morning being the lowest point, I almost didn't recognize it when a good day snuck itself into our lives. Sunnie, who was in terrible shape Monday morning when we lost his brother, who had to be rushed to the vet again, was suddenly eating on his own and being more alert and active. Even his terrible congestion from yesterday seems to have cleared a bit. No more tube feeding or sub Q injections! I'm so utterly relieved to see Sunnie acting almost back to normal.

Here's an adorable video of him enjoying a tummy rub. He's much more aware of his hands than his siblings, testing them out and almost starting to clean himself even. I'm just so proud of him I may just burst.

A very sad day...

DAY 8

I lost Bennie today. We were so worried about Sunnie who's been sick since last week, but it was Bennie who suddenly got sick last night and died early this morning. I'm devastated, despite having only known him for a week. The feeling of helplessness is overwhelming, as well as fear for Sunnie who's still ill. I called the vet early this morning to see if I can bring him again for an emergency visit, as his nose is so congested today that he's having trouble breathing. He's now on new meds and we'll just have to wait and see if it makes a difference.

Goodbye Bennie. We loved you very much in the short time we've known you, and we're very sorry that we couldn't help you live the life you so deserved. It's raining outside as if the heaven also knows the sadness we're feeling for losing you. Hope you're at a better place now where you can grow up to be a big healthy kitten. I just wish I could've seen that myself.

Trouble

DAY 4

The good news is, I've finally managed to name the gang. The diluted calico and the only female of the group is Bonnie, who definitely stands out of the crowd, is the loudest, most daring, and most demanding. A true diva. Gray tabby is Brownie, aka "Jang Goon" (Korean for "General"), and he's a big pudgy guy who started drinking the KMR with such gusto I started making a back up bottle just in case he drinks everyone else's share. Then there's the little orange twins, Sunnie & Bennie. Both much smaller than the other two and quite characters. I must say, I'm rather partial to these little guys.

The bad news is, day 4 is going really bad due to Sunnie's sudden diarrhea. It started late last night, then this morning he stopped sucking on the bottle himself. I couldn't get much KMR into him this morning, called my vet, couldn't get an appointment for today so made one for tomorrow, ran to the store to get a Pedialyte, and started syringe feeding him in the afternoon. He doesn't seem to have much energy nor appetite, but I've managed to put 5cc of KMR and 1cc of Pedialyte into him for 2 feedings now. Hopefully the vet will be able to help him tomorrow.

DAY 3

Just some videos of the babies suckling on my fingers. This has become their new obsession.

Coming alive

They're getting getting more active and vocal, especially the orange twins. They may be tiny but they're the life of the party! The one crying in the video is the smaller of the two and quite a character already. Here he's crying looking for my hand so he can suckle on my finger.

A video of babies nap time

Life sure is peaceful when you're young kittens, even orphaned ones.

Rough start

DAY 2

Today started a bit rough, with a morning feeding that was less than ideal. Munchkins are still not used to the bottles completely and needs quite a bit of coaxing to eat. This morning it took 3 turns for everyone to eat barely enough...

I had to give them a bath with Dawn for the fleas and it helped quite a bit. I'm still picking off a few but I think one more bath should do the trick.

New beginning!

DAY 1

I haven't updated this blog in awhile but I got a reason to come back today. There are new additions! No, they'll not be permanent residents but will be staying until they're old enough to find their own homes. They were dropped off at the vet's office, 6 kittens approximately a week old, and 2 of them were taken by someone else before I got there so I came home with the remaining 4.

So introducing the munchkins! There are 3 males & 1 female according to the vet. The 2nd from the left is the largest and only female of the litter and the tiny orange one peaking out from the pile on the right side is the runt.

One of the gray males.

One of the orange male, a rather spunky and silly little guy already.

They're fussy little things at this age, have fleas, and so far they haven't taken to bottles well. The little orange runt boy in particular was fighting me against every little drop during the first mealtime and will need special attention.

Look forward to daily kitten updates!
